Institutional scenarios and disputes in the creation of the first Faculty of Sciences in Uruguay (1985-1995).

Abstract

We propose a reconstruction of the institutional history situated in the University of the Republic (Udelar) of Uruguay between the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century. That period was marked by conditions of the return to democracy after the last civic-military dictatorship, which intervened in the public university. There was an institutional split that gave rise to the first Faculty of Sciences in the country. From the Higher Education field of studies we analyze this process and its disputes, identifying two institutional styles in an academic professionalization path.
