Abstract
The importance of plastics in modern daily life is indisputable. Due to their advantages and versatility, they are present in all areas of human development. However, the increase in their production and irresponsible disposal of used plastics has led to waste accumulation, producing negative impacts on the environment and the wastage of valuable resources. This article reviews information on the problem, analyzing research on the final disposal of plastic waste, its circularity through different indicators based on mass balances and Life Cycle Analysis as a methodology to evaluate impacts.
