Abstract

The operational efficiency of a wind turbine depends on the characteristics of the location where it is going to be installed. Accordingly, it is important that the wind turbine is design specially for the local winds.

In this paper, the characteristics of a wind tunnel were developed for testing low power wind turbines which allows an economic and simple way to not only determinate the characteristic curves of a wind turbine and the power generation for different wind curves, but also make the necessary design adjustments in order to maximize the extracted power from the wind turbine for installation in regions of Argentina with different wind curves. Furthermore, this provides the possibility to make a comparison among different models, modifying specific design parameters to evaluate the influence of them in the performance of the wind turbine.

The wind tunnel will constitute a fundamental tool for the national development of low power wind turbines in the country.
