Abstract
Discourses of memory in visual arts is a recurrent theme of contemporary narratives that signals the construction of a culture of memory. In this regard, this work seeks to analyse the 54th Edition of the Venice Biennale, with special emphasis on the pavilions of the United States, France and Poland.
Each of the pavilions of the Biennale exhibits site-specific pieces, though their discourse is underscored and re-signified by the political structure of nation representation. Within this context, the various approaches to the discourses of memory address an implicit need for reflection upon contemporary culture and provide an explicit response to local conflicts and politics.
