Abstract

The article deals with the foreign trade of audiovisual services in Argentina. To do so, it begins by reviewing the main transformations of the audiovisual sector in the last decades, and then reviews some contextual issues related to the trade of Knowledge-Based Services. The analysis is based on the compilation and processing of official data that allow dimensioning the phenomenon and its medium-term trajectory. In addition, traditional international trade (mainly inter-company) and the import of digital audiovisual services (which, due to the action of the platforms, is imported directly by households) are analyzed separately. Finally, the article reflects on the current challenges and opportunities, highlighting the structural nature of U.S. dominance and the strategic issue of intellectual property, to which endogenous difficulties linked to Argentina's macroeconomic trajectory must be added. The article seeks to contribute to the visibility and problematization of the issue.
