Abstract

The study of the Armenian Genocide is usually limited to the years of the First World War (1914-1918). However, the Armenians continued to be attacked during the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923). For this reason, a comparative analysis of the genocidal methods used by the Young Turks during the Great War with the policies applied by the Turkish nationalists during the post-war period is here proposed, to determine whether in the period 1919-1923 there was a continuity of the Armenian genocide or a succession of inter-ethnic conflicts.

Furthermore, an attempt will be made to demonstrate that this genocide started in 1915 consisted of two phases: one reorganizing and the other constituent, which not only affected the Armenians of the Ottoman Empire but also those of Transcaucasia. To this end, telegrams from the Turkish-Ottoman, German and American archives will be especially analyzed, as well as newspapers, Ottoman state documents, accounts of Armenian survivors, memoirs of ambassadors, missionaries and officials, and some censuses and population estimates.
