Abstract

The fight for recognition of the Armenian Genocide, a topic almost exclusively held by Armenian diaspora communities in the face of denialism by the Republic of Turkey,
faces limited commitment from countries that owe their own history an unresolved debt. In his book, Julien Zarifian conducts exhaustive research, dedicating more than
a decade to this emblematic case of the United States, a country that, since the 1920s, has pursued policies contrary to its recognition. It was only recognized in 2019
by the Senate and the House of Representatives, and in 2021 by the Executive Branch, under President Joe Biden. This recognition was a long-awaited event every April
24th by the Armenian diaspora in the United States, especially because several of its presidents expressed their commitment during their election campaigns, which they
failed to fulfill during their presidencies. In his research, Zarifian focuses on the United States' ties to the Armenian community and its efforts for recognition of
the Genocide. It also delves into the history of the Armenian diaspora in that country, whose early presence remains active to this day.
