Abstract

Based on two ongoing doctoral dissertations, this paper examines the intersection between health and territory in order to discuss a new category to designate the symbolic domains where health is constructed beyond aid-oriented approach: the health spaces. The research adopts a qualitative-descriptive approach grounded in the analysis of bibliographic sources and empirical data collected through interviews and surveys with key actors, including residents, workers, and public officials. The analysis is structured around four dimensions: Actors, Habitat-Territory, Time-Temporality, and Participation-Co-management-Democratization. The findings reveal that the proposed category does not yet exist within the health and social field, and that health spaces are shaped less by physical settings than by co-management processes situated in the territory. In this way, the article contributes to rethinking the territorialization of urban social and health policies.
