Sentido y Alcance de la Internacionalización de la Educación Superior: Análisis de los Temas de las Conferencias de la Association of International Educators (NAFSA) (2001-2023).
Resumo
This article presents the results of a qualitative exploratory study, which aims to analyze the evolution of the meaning and scope of internationalization of higher education in the themes of the annual conferences of the Association of International Educators (NAFSA), held between 2001 and 2023. The methodology employed is the historical-critical approach proposed by Saviani (2011), which enables us to examine the subject from the perspective of historical-dialectical materialism. As part of our methodological procedures, we conducted a bibliographic and documentary research. Among the results of the study, it is observed that NAFSA has held 22 conferences on various topics related to internationalization. We found that the topics discussed in the various multilateral organizations and think tank associations are similar. These issues are rooted in the economic vision of the educational field. However, some conferences also incorporate a humanistic and supportive vision of internationalization. Additionally, the dialectic of internationalization is present in the topics of discussion. Some debates are based on aspects of solidarity internationalization, while others focus on cross-border education and its mercantilist facet.
