Abstract

This article seeks to answer the following question: what has been researched in Argentina and Latin America about teaching work in rural secondary schools, and particularly in alternating institutions? Since the enactment of compulsory secondary education in Argentina, secondary school has become an object of concern both academically and in educational policy. Educational inclusion and schooling rates have been central topics, and comprise vast development on both levels. However, territorial coverage, as well as the characteristics of teaching work in secondary schools, represent a key challenge - if not an obstacle - to guarantee the effective fulfillment of the right to education at the secondary level. Both topics are scarcely explored in educational research, so this article aims to contribute to their development in order to provide conceptual bases for policies that address these challenges, based on the experience of alternation schools in the province of Buenos Aires.
