Abstract

The Inorganic Chemistry course, in the second semester of the first year of Chemical Engineering, usually includes nine experimental activities with detailed laboratory reports. However, mechanical repetition was observed in the reports without real understanding of the experimental changes. This had no pedagogical meaning beyond the verification of chemical phenomena. In 2023, KPSI questionnaires and a new laboratory report format with questions focused on CTSA content were implemented, promoting scientific culture and preparation for conscious citizenship. In addition, the validation of a "laboratory notebook" digitized by the Head of Practical Work was introduced. KPSI surveys showed significant improvements in understanding and application of concepts. Although the Laboratory Report was simplified, some students needed further development of it. The majority answered the questions correctly, but there were some difficulties with practical problems when applying the concepts and techniques seen. 75% of the students managed to regularize the subject. These initial changes show encouraging results, highlighting the need to continue improving experimental practices in Inorganic Chemistry for first-year students.
